Cinque Terre {5 Villages}

A few weeks ago, my first weekend in Italy, my best friends and I took a trip to the coast to visit one of the most picturesque places, Cinque Terre. Cinque Terre literally means 5 Towns, and, as you would guess, is 5 towns hidden into the mountains of the coast. The Italians who live here have carved ledges into the mountain to plant and grow product like grapes for wine and limes. The colorful houses are said to be a way for sailors who were leaving home to look back at the coast and find their own house, looking upon it fondly one more time before their journey. We only went for a day but it was one of the most gorgeous places I have ever been. It was like living in a postcard.

The first town was by far my favorite. We ate at a tiny little cafe right on the coast, having fresh omelets and coffee. After being there for about an hour we took a train to the next town where Kate and I spent probably 2 hours exploring the tiny streets, shops and taking pictures of the Mediterranean Sea. The coastline is stunning and the water was the most beautiful turquoise color. 

After exploring for a while we stopped to get a snack before moving on to the last island. Our friend directed us to a little Foccaciaria that was hidden among all of the shops. When we walked in a cute old man was working behind the counter. We picked out delicious looking rosemary foccacia that he heated up for us in a big stone oven. Let me tell you-it was the most amazing bread I have ever tasted and it cost ONE euro! I wanted to buy everything in his shop just so I could eat it for the rest of the semester. It was divine and if I ever go back to Cinque this place will be my first stop. 

At about 4pm we took one more train to the last town which had a big beach. In italy public beach space is pretty limited so we snatched up the biggest spot we could find, laid down our towels and ran into the water. It wasn't necessarily warn but it wasn't cold either. The waves were pretty rough that day so we spent an hour in the water jumping waves and enjoying the sun. Being at a beach with the colorful coast on one side and mountains on the otherside was amazing. It was definitely an experience, to say the least.

After we finished at the beach we went out for a huge seafood (I didn't eat the seafood, as I'm vegetarian) and pasta dinner. It was delicious. All in all, it was an amazing day. Cinque is only about 2 hours from me in Florence and I would recommend it as a MUST GO spot for anyone who find themselves in Italy. Given the chance, I would move to Cinque in a heartbeat. 

firenze love!

welcome to firenze! it's been a few days since i moved from ohio to italy and it still hasn't sunk in that i now live on a different continent. i live 20 minutes away from the duomo and i can walk to the arno river with ease. these first few days have been spent getting over jetlag, discovering my neighborhood and spending way too many euros. 

the apartment i live in, with 4 other girls, is gigantic. it's modern and tuscan at the same time, with floor to ceiling windows, a back terrace and a marble staircase. i'm smitten.

Rolled Braid Updo {How To}

Hi loves! It's been a while, huh? Well earlier this summer my best friend's older sister got married (it was a beautiful wedding) and this is the hair I wore! I spent all morning doing the Bridemaids' hair and so I threw this up really quickly. 

It's a pretty easy style. Rolling your hair into the bun is the hardest part, and my Mom helped me, but it's DEFINITELY do-able by yourself!

step one: tease your hair, BIG, bigger than you want it in the end. this is allow for wiggle room and moveability.

step two: pull a few strands back into a half-poof and bobby-pin. again, keep it bigger than you want it to end. the bun will pull it down a bit.

step three: braid two small pieces right behind each ear. tie with a clear elastic or hairspray a ton (which is what I did) and leave those alone.

step four: tie all of your hair (leave out the braids) into a low pony. as low as you can without a TON of layers falling out. a few is fine. 

step five: roll all of your hair up, tucking the ends under, like you're rollin' up crescent rolls. bobby-pin inside the roll, especially at the edges. make sure you can't see the mess happening inside of the roll. 

step six: (see first picture) drape braids across the seam at the top of the roll and bobby-pin down. 

See? Super easy! I pulled a few pieces out around my face and ears, that's my preference, but you could leave everything slicked back for a more formal feel!

Travel Style {Maxi Dresses}

Hi loves!

So, yesterday was the first week of classes for me. Back to the grind after a nice and relaxing winter break, but I'm excited about the classes I'm taking!

As some of you may know, my roommate and I are traveling to Florence next fall to study there for four months. We had our first orientation class last night and it has me SO EXCITED! I still cannot believe it.

One thing I thought of right away was my airport outfit. I need something comfy for 20 hours of traveling, but I have to be fashionable (I will be going with 50 other fashion students). So a long maxi dress seemed like the perfect option.

Add a sweater for the airport and this outfit is so simple and cozy, yet chic. These are some of my favorites. Which one should I get?
